Goldwork Blue Tit in Flight – Learn the traditional techniques of couching gold cords and applying metallic leathers in this contemporary embroidery of a Blue Tit in flight. Experience working with T71 cord, rococo cord and 1mm cord as you couch the design. Use check and purl wires to create texture and light-catching effects and then add colour with satin stitch, fly stitch and stem stitch. This charming bird is approximately 6” x 7” when completed. The kit comes with all materials. You will need a 10” wooden embroidery hoop, cotton sewing thread to match your cords, a selection of sewing needles to include a beading needle and a large-eyed bodkin/tapestry needle for plunging cords.

I would like to introduce you to my first Gold Work Book using traditional techniques along with my own modern approach to this ancient skill. I have included a small introduction on what materials to use and how to use them followed by 11 varied projects for you to embroider and several designs for you to experiment on with your new-found skills.

This Autumnal kit featuring a golden squirrel is my 2022 successful workshop and was designed as a sequel to The Moonlight Hare kit. The kit has full instructions and all materials to complete the project. All you will need is a cotton thread to blend with the cords to be couched and a selection of needles. The techniques used throughout are application of padded and unpadded leather, modern painted areas, applying purl and check wires, couching modern and traditional cords and general surface embroidery to create this stylised modern embroidery.
